Filing Taxes in Taiwan? Here’s What You Need to Know!

The National Taxation Bureau of the Northern Area has issued a reminder for foreign nationals residing in Taiwan regarding the upcoming tax filing period. If you’ve been chilling (or working hard!) in Taiwan for 183 days or more in 2024, guess what? You’re considered a tax resident here. That means it’s time to get those taxes sorted between May 1 and June 2, 2025. 📅

📌 Here’s the Key Points:

1. Who Needs to File?

o If you’ve stayed in Taiwan for 183 days or more in a year, you’re a tax resident. You need to file income tax return just like general Taiwanese citizens.

2. What Income to Report?

o All the money you made from Taiwanese sources, including anything you earned overseas if it’s tied to work done in Taiwan.

o Any oversea sourced income.

3. Easy Filing Options:

Taiwan’s tax system has online filing available in English and Chinese—pretty convenient! You can log in using:

o Alien Citizen Digital Certificate

o National Health Insurance Card + Registered Password

o Approved Electronic Certificates

o Unified Certificate Number + Passport Number or Resident Certificate Number

4. How to Pay Your Taxes:

o 💳 Credit Card or ATM Online Payments

o 🏦 Authorized Financial Institutions

o 🏪 Convenience Stores (if the amount is NT$30,000 or less)
